Gauge

14 hdc and 10 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in the round

Abbreviations

  • sc — single crochet
  • inc — 2 sc in the same stitch
  • hdc — half double crochet
  • sc blo — single crochet in the back loop only
  • sl st — slip stitch
  • tr — treble crochet
  • dc — double crochet

Pattern notes

  • Work in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise.
  • Use a stitch marker to track the first stitch of each round.
  • Change colors at the end of the last stitch of the previous round.

1. Crown

Start with the Dusty Rose yarn to create a smooth, rounded top.

  • Round 1: 10 sc in a magic ring [10]
  • Round 2: inc × 10 [20]
  • Round 3: (sc, inc) × 10 [30]
  • Round 4: (2 sc, inc) × 10 [40]
  • Round 5: (3 sc, inc) × 10 [50]
  • Round 6: (4 sc, inc) × 10 [60]
  1. Fasten off Dusty Rose. Join Warm Cream with a slip stitch in any stitch.

2. Body

Switch to Warm Cream and work a tall, cozy body in half double crochet.

  • Rounds 7–12: 60 hdc picked up evenly [60]
  1. Fasten off Warm Cream. Join Sage Green with a slip stitch in any stitch.

3. Brim

Finish with Sage Green, working in the back loops only for a stretchy ribbed edge.

  • Rounds 13–16: 60 sc blo picked up evenly [60]
  • Round 17: sl st in each stitch around [60]
  1. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for weaving in.

4. WithMe signature heart

The same little heart sits on every WithMe original — our way of signing it with love. Use any contrast colour from the project.

  • Round 1: 3 tr, 3 dc, ch, tr, ch, 3 dc, 3 tr in a magic ring [15] — Ch 3 first (it doesn't count as a stitch). After the last stitch, ch 3 and sl st into the ring, then pull the ring tight — the dip at the top of the heart forms as you pull.
  1. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing the heart in place.

Finishing

  1. Weave in all ends securely using a yarn needle.
  2. Sew the small WithMe signature heart in Warm Cream yarn onto the lower right side of the Sage Green brim.
  3. Block lightly if desired to even out the stitches and set the shape.

Tips from the WithMe studio

  • Keep your tension relaxed when working the back loop only rows to maintain a stretchy brim.
  • When changing colors, pull the new color through the last loop of the old color to create a clean join.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make this hat smaller or larger?+

Yes! To adjust the size, simply add or subtract increase rounds in the Crown section. Each increase round adds about 1 inch to the circumference.

What if I only have one color of yarn?+

This pattern looks beautiful in a single color. The texture changes between sections will still provide lovely visual interest.
