What you need — Dusty Rose Cloud Puff Baby Blanket

Gauge

14 dc and 8 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm). Gauge is important for the desired drape and size.

Abbreviations

  • ch — chain
  • sk — skip the next stitch
  • dc — double crochet
  • puff — puff stitch
  • sc — single crochet
  • tr — treble crochet

Pattern notes

  • Chains at the beginning of rows do not count as stitches.
  • Change colors at the end of the last stitch of the row to keep edges neat.
  • The puff stitch is worked by yarning over, inserting hook, pulling up a loop 3 times, then pulling through all loops.

1. Blanket

Work the entire blanket in continuous rows, starting with a foundation chain and building up the textured wave pattern.

  • Row 1: 145 ch [145]
  • Row 2: sk, 144 dc [144]
  • Row 3: (5 dc, puff, 5 dc, puff) × 12 [144]
  • Row 4: dc in each stitch across [144]
  • Row 5: (6 dc, puff, 4 dc, puff) × 12 [144]
  • Row 6: dc in each stitch across [144]
  • Rows 7–9: sc in each stitch across [144]
  1. Repeat Rows 3-6 until the blanket measures 34 inches, ending on a Row 6. Change colors every 4 rows in this order: Dusty Rose, Sage Green, Blush, then back to Warm Cream.
  2. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

2. WithMe signature heart

The same little heart sits on every WithMe original — our way of signing it with love. Use any contrast colour from the project.

  • Round 1: 3 tr, 3 dc, ch, tr, ch, 3 dc, 3 tr in a magic ring [15] — Ch 3 first (it doesn't count as a stitch). After the last stitch, ch 3 and sl st into the ring, then pull the ring tight — the dip at the top of the heart forms as you pull.
  1. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing the heart in place.

Finishing

  1. Block the blanket gently to even out the stitches and set the dimensions.
  2. Sew the small signature WithMe heart in warm cream on the bottom right corner, about 2 inches from the edge.
  3. Weave in any remaining yarn tails securely on the wrong side.

Tips from the WithMe studio

  • Keep your tension relaxed when working the puff stitches to prevent the fabric from pulling in.
  • Use stitch markers at the beginning and end of each row to easily keep track of your stitch count.
  • Carrying the unused color up the side can save time, but cutting and joining ensures cleaner color transitions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make this blanket larger?+

Yes! Simply add a multiple of 12 to your foundation chain and adjust the wave pattern repeats accordingly.

What if my edges look uneven?+

Make sure to work your first stitch into the very first stitch of the previous row, not into the turning chain space.

Is this pattern suitable for beginners?+

It is perfect for confident beginners. The puff stitch is the only new technique, and it is worked over just a few stitches.
